G'day everyone,
May was another massive month across Western Sydney, full of momentum and milestones. From topping out towers to housing debates, cultural investments and city-shaping collaborations, the region is buzzing with ambition.

Bradfield Tour: A Glimpse of the Future

Business Western Sydney recently hosted an exclusive tour of Bradfield City Centre, giving our members a firsthand look at the game-changing developments taking shape around the Aerotropolis. We visited the new metro station and drove along the WSI runway – landmarks of a precinct set to transform Western Sydney.

Led by Executive Director David Borger, the group was welcomed by Bradfield Development Authority CEO Ken Morrison, who outlined the bold vision and strategic investments driving the project forward.

The tour highlighted key sites earmarked for advanced manufacturing, research and innovation – signalling Bradfield’s potential as a major new economic hub. We also explored the vital role of integrated transport, sustainable design and community input in creating a connected, future-ready city.

As Bradfield continues to take shape, Business Western Sydney remains committed to pushing for the policies and infrastructure needed to bring this landmark project to life.

Big thanks to Go Zero Buses for keeping us moving on the day.

Planning Event with Minister Paul Scully

At a recent breakfast event, NSW Planning and Public Spaces Minister Paul Scully briefed our members on the government’s efforts to tackle the state’s housing challenges. The forum was an opportunity for open discussion on planning reform, infrastructure coordination and fast-tracking housing supply.

Minister Scully spoke to the importance of streamlining approvals and building partnerships that support sustainable growth. Members shared valuable perspectives on market conditions, community expectations and the need for strong collaboration between government and industry.

The event underscored a shared commitment to delivering more affordable, high-quality homes for Western Sydney’s growing and diverse population.

A big thank you to our sponsors, Billbergia and Arab Bank, for making the morning possible.

New Video Series,
Parts Unknown

We’re proud to launch the first episode of our new (slightly satirical) series Western Sydney: Parts Unknown – a playful homage to the late, great Anthony Bourdain and his gift for uncovering stories hidden in plain sight.

In this debut, David Borger visits King of Pickles in Fairfield and meet Michael – an Iraqi-Australian with a serious passion for pickles and his community.

Western Sydney is full of places like this: fun, authentic and unforgettable. They may not make the headlines, but they tell the real story of who we are.

This is just the beginning. Stay tuned as we explore the unexpected, the hilarious and the heartfelt moments that make our region a true cultural powerhouse.

Powerhouse Tops Out

The Powerhouse Parramatta has officially topped out, marking the completion of its structural framework and a major step forward for one of Australia’s most significant cultural projects. Premier Chris Minns and Minister for Lands and Property Steve Kamper joined the celebration, highlighting the museum’s potential to transform Western Sydney’s cultural landscape.

A generous $5 million donation from the Neilson Foundation will support the Powerhouse’s bold vision. David Borger, President of the Powerhouse Museum Trust, said the project will create lasting opportunities for future generations and firmly position Parramatta on the national cultural stage.

South West Workshop

The South West Sydney Alliance (SWSA) convened a post federal election workshop at Camden Valley Inn to discuss strategic priorities and collaborative initiatives for the region. Chaired by David Borger, the session reviewed key wins from the campaign, including $1 billion downpayments for South West Sydney rail projects and the Fifteenth Avenue upgrade between Liverpool and Bradfield. Further detail on these commitments is now being sought.

The workshop emphasised the importance of unified advocacy in addressing the unique challenges facing South West Sydney. These include the long-awaited Campbelltown Justice Precinct, and access to health, transport and sporting infrastructure The SWSA will shape a comprehensive advocacy plan ahead of the 2027 NSW State election.

TAKE SURVEY

in memoriam

Charles casuscelli

We at Business Western Sydney were deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Charles Casuscelli former member for Strathfield and CEO of WSROC – a true character, a great friend to many and a tireless champion for Western Sydney.

Charles had an unmistakable presence, full of warmth, humour and genuine curiosity. He was often the first person to ask a question at any public forum. That might sound like a small thing, but it takes a certain Roman chutzpah, a blend of courage, charm and cheek to get the room moving. That was Charles. Unafraid to speak up, always engaged and never dull.

He believed passionately in the potential of Western Sydney and worked hard to make it better. He was positive, pragmatic and never short of a smile or a story.

We’ve lost someone who made our community richer, not just through ideas, but through his sheer humanity.

Our thoughts and the thoughts of Western Sydney are with his family, friends and all who had the privilege to know him. Rest in peace, Charles.
