Business Western Sydney is the peak business advocacy organisation representing and championing the organisations driving Australia’s third-largest economy – Western Sydney. Our mission is simple: to make Western Sydney the best place in Australia to live, work, learn and invest.

Our members include CEOs, Chairs and leading executives from more than 150 of Australia’s major corporations, not-for-profit organisations and government agencies with a significant interest in Western Sydney.

As a not-for-profit organisation, we focus on bringing together business and industry with government to create communities of shared interest for the benefit of Western Sydney.

We work across all levels of government to:

  • champion the future vision for Western Sydney’s public and private infrastructure
  • explore opportunities for innovation and investment
  • host candid forums for discussion and debate
  • shift future jobs growth towards Western Sydney through world-class education and skills programs
  • most importantly, advocate for the economic, social and cultural investment that will improve the quality of life for the citizens of Western Sydney.

OUR EVOLUTION

Business Western Sydney proudly traces its roots way back to 1826 when the Sydney Chamber of Commerce was established as the first organisation of its kind in the fledgling colony. It gradually evolved into becoming the Sydney Business Chamber, and in 2012 the Western Sydney Business Chamber was founded to reflect the emergence of Western Sydney as a growing economic powerhouse. 

Our first major campaign was advocating for the approval of Western Sydney International (Nancy Bird-Walton) Airport. In the early stage of the Aerotropolis debate we helped define the narrative by commissioning reports, hosting conferences and leading a group of business and community groups to successfully advocate the substantial economic, tourism and job creation benefits of the airport will deliver.

To assist in the design and construction of the airport, the Government's established Aerotropolis and Western City, managed by the Western City and Aerotropolis Authority, and Western Sydney Airport Co Limited (WSA Co).  We continue lead this debate to ensure this once-in-a-century greenfield development is a world-leading centre of excellence embracing modern technology and cutting-edge innovation, from renewable utilities and walkable smart precincts.



WORKING FOR WESTERN SYDNEY

Our advocacy efforts are dedicated to keeping Western Sydney a competitive market for business while championing investments in the social, cultural and amenity investments providing our residents with a world-class place to work, live and entertain. Our current efforts include,

  • planning reform to cater for the projected population boom, with Western Sydney expected to double in size and be home to 20% of Australia's population by 2060
  • advocating for the transport and infrastructure projects to enable the population boom, such as Parramatta Light Rail and Stage 2, West Metro, North-South Metro and the Fifteenth Avenue Smart Transit Corridor 
  • supporting the transformation of Western Sydney's hospitals to world-class clusters of health, research and innovation excellence 
  • promoting the evolution of legacy precincts like Sydney Olympic Park and brownfield industrial sites to modern multi-purpose destinations
  • providing a loud and clear voice for Western Sydney to receive the arts and cultural facilities it deserves, such as the Powerhouse Museum Parramatta, supported by regulation to create a thriving night-economy for local residents
  • championing the need for a greener Western Sydney by providing more parks, unlocking more public green spaces and planting more trees to offset the heat island effect. 

UPCOMING EVENTS

Business Western Sydney hosts over 50 member events per year, hosting Federal and State Ministers, senior public servants and business and industry leaders. These events include boardrooms, roundtables, conferences, breakfast & dinner events.
