The 2023 Housing Now! Conference was a big success. Joined by key government decision makers from the NSW Premier, The Minister for Planning & Public Spaces and the Minister for Housing.
A gathering of more than 280 people, the collaboration of peak bodies across development, social housing, alliances & unions. A force in unison, propelling huge movement in the housing space and alignment with the NSW Government to reach our ambitious goals to address the housing crisis.
Although it was met with resistance from communities and associations, it is critical to continue advocating for housing, making it accessible and affordable for all. To which we are excited to announce the 2024 Housing Now! Conference on Wednesday 11 September 2024. This event will be opened by the NSW Premier, The Hon Chris Minns MP.
There are several key priority areas which require immediate focus and action; adequate social housing, better zoning and planning systems, more capacity in the construction sector, and a taxation system that supports supply and affordability.
The Housing Now! half-day Conference brings Government, experts, community and industry leaders together to face the challenge head-on, find innovative ways to eliminate obstacles to housing growth and to banish the NIMBY culture that threatens to pull up the ladder from the grasp of future generations. We believe that by fostering innovation, responsibility, and unity, NSW can build a brighter future where every resident has access to safe, affordable, and sustainable housing.
The housing crisis is a collective problem in need of collective solutions – harnessing all levels of government, the private sector and the not‑for‑profit sector.
We hope you can join us.

HOUSING NOW! 2024 POLICY PLATFORM
A plan to make housing fairer for everyone in NSW. Read about the 10 new policy suggestions to make housing more accessible.
We have identified five key areas to move the dial on delivering new homes quickly:
- Continuing planning policy reforms, including 10 priorities in our plan.
- Coordinating the delivery of supporting infrastructure for housing.
- Coordinating the delivery of the $5.1 billion social housing package.
- Resolving unreasonable agency blockages to speed up approvals in the planning system.
- Using call-in powers so major housing projects can be assessed and determined taking into account the urgent housing crisis.
Delivering the housing accord in NSW is a huge challenge, but we cannot afford to give up. The stakes are too high to maintain the status quo and we need to be working collectively to provide a fairer future for the next generations because everyone deserves a place to call home.
Housing Now!’s new plan sets clear tangible actions that can be taken to provide a fairer system and deliver the housing our State desperately needs.
