Executive Director of Business Western Sydney David Borger has welcomed today’s announcement that Qatar Airways will commence flights between Western Sydney International Airport and Doha from December 2027. He is available to provide media comment on the new airport and the Parramatta Lanes festival also commencing today.

"This is what the airport is about: opening doors for Western Sydney businesses and giving people around the world a new way to get here,” Mr Borger said.

"A direct flight to Doha puts Europe, the Middle East and Africa within easier reach. That matters whether you’re chasing a new customer, visiting family or coming here to do business.

“It’s going to provide great investment, tourism and educational opportunities for our multicultural population in Western Sydney.

“The big prize has always been getting the Gulf carriers to Western Sydney – congratulations to the government and airport team on getting it done.”

The new service will operate three times a week and provide travellers with access to Qatar Airways' extensive international network spanning 177 destinations across 87 countries.

The announcement adds another major carrier to Western Sydney International's growing flight network. Airlines already committed to the airport include Singapore Airlines, Air New Zealand, VietJet, Fiji Airways, Qantas and Jetstar.

The new service adds to an expanding international network forecast to attract more than 162,000 international visitors to NSW and generate an estimated $530 million in visitor expenditure.

"This adds momentum to Western Sydney’s hotel boom,” Mr Borger said. “More flights mean more potential guests, but we need the rooms to welcome them. Hotel development needs to keep pace."

"The payoff is visitors staying here, eating in our restaurants, shopping in our town centres and attending great events like Parramatta Lanes. That’s how we turn new flights into local jobs and more business for Western Sydney."
