HOUSING NOW! ALLIANCE STANDS FIRM IN SUPPORT OF NSW GOVERNMENT'S TOD HOUSING POLICY
MEDIA STATEMENT 5 June 2024
Housing Now!, a leading advocacy group of business, unions, universities, peak bodies and community representatives, today reaffirmed its strong support for the NSW Government's Transit-Oriented Development (TOD) housing policy, and expressed disappointment at the NSW Opposition's intention to overturn this cornerstone policy to support more housing close to jobs, transport and amenities.
Housing Now! is dismayed by the Opposition's short-sighted decision to overturn a policy that will deliver more housing around key transport nodes in Greater Sydney, Wollongong and Newcastle.
Every community across Sydney will have to take its fair share - and we know that putting that housing near train stations is the best option to provide people with access to jobs and amenity.
We urge political leaders to put the interests of the community ahead of political point-scoring.
Housing Now! calls on all political parties to:
- Support the continuation of the TOD policy
- Commit to increasing housing supply and affordability NSW deserves better than political brinksmanship on critical issues like housing.
We implore leaders to work together to ensure a brighter future for our state.
